On 16 June, BC3 presented JUST4CARE at the 13th Conference of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in Spain, organised by CDTI Innovación in Barcelona under the title “Between Two Programmes, Horizon Europe”.
The event was organised by CDTI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the European Commission and Acció. The conference aimed to analyse the latest developments of the current Horizon Europe Framework Programme, support Spanish organisations in their participation in the final calls of the programme, and discuss the future EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, also called Horizon Europe, which will begin in 2028.
JUST4CARE was presented in the poster exhibition, creating an opportunity to share the project with the wider Spanish and European research and innovation community. Coordinated by BC3 Basque Centre for Climate Change, JUST4CARE also includes strong Spanish participation through partners such as the City of Madrid, GEA 21, I-Catalist and Espacio Bellas Vistas, alongside organisations working across Madrid, Çankaya/Ankara, Budapest and Zagreb.

For JUST4CARE, being present at the conference was not only a visibility opportunity. It was also a chance to bring one of the project’s central questions into a wider Horizon Europe conversation: how can cities adapt to climate change without reinforcing existing inequalities?
Climate adaptation is often discussed through infrastructure, technology or risk reduction. JUST4CARE adds another layer: who is most exposed to heat, floods or other climate impacts; who has fewer resources to protect themselves; whose knowledge is considered relevant; and how local experience can inform public decisions.
By presenting JUST4CARE in Barcelona, BC3 contributed to a broader discussion on the future of European research and innovation, while sharing the project’s commitment to adaptation that is not only effective, but also fair, inclusive and grounded in everyday life.
